OK, that sounds a little creepy, but it has been verified in research that people like others more when they mirror their mannerisms or actions. In other words, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and we like to be flattered. Research has shown that waiters get bigger tips if they repeat the exact words back to customers who are ordering food, and participants in one study were even more altruistic after they were mimicked. (They were more likely to pick up pens for the researcher who dropped them if they’d been imitated earlier.) Read More »

We loved reading Oprah Winfrey’s tribute to Michelle Obama in “The Time 100,” from Time magazine’s issue about the world’s most influential people. But we love it now even more hearing the heart-wrenching story of how her piece came to fruition. It’s not what you think.

"I was doing it on a BlackBerry," Oprah confessed. "I'd been saving little notes on my BlackBerry. You know, I'd think of something and I'd put it on BlackBerry in the memo section. And then I went to hit the wrong button and the whole thing deleted! I went to hit 'Save' and instead I hit ... 'Oh my God! Oh my God! It's gone!' That ever happened to you? And then you can't remember — not one sentence you wrote." Oh man, we really, really hate that. The sad part: all of Oprah's power couldn't save that document and she had to start from scratch. Don't hold your breath waiting for the male birth control pill. Despite overwhelming statistics confirming that guys would be more than willing to take one (our very own AskMen/Shine study on the subject showed that the majority of both sexes agreed that they were ready to take the plunge), drug companies refuse to continue the already huge strides they've made in making it's availability a reality.
