SHINE EXCLUSIVE: 10 divorce do's and don'ts
editor
We kind of love the idea of Jay Mohr's new show "
Gary Unmarried," which
chronicles a guy's side of the story when it comes to a fact of
life so many of us can relate to, divorce. To celebrate its debut,
we asked Jay to put together an exclusive, "servicey" video and
dish advice about what to do, and more importantly, what NOT to do
when it comes to divorce proceedings. Feel free to follow up with
your own advice in the comments, and catch the show next Wednesday
on CBS after "The New Adventures of Old Christine." Enjoy!

Jay Mohr is recently divorced himself, so this show may be somewhat autobiographical. I agree, slam-dunking the Bible is a no-no.

I think it's funny - but then, I'm not divorced. I have a feeling, however, if (God forbid) I ever do get divorced, my weird sense of humor will be listed under "irreconcilable differences."

I think that was more comical than serious, so I wouldn't take that particular advice. Each divorce case is different, so go with whatever works for your situation at hand!

Comical but likely to get you screwed in Court.
Guys talk to a lawyer BEFORE you say I do. If your marriage is tenuous, talk to a lawyer NOW. Keep a month's living expenses on some prepaid debit cards and keep them in various places (wallet, work, locker, etc.) so you can live. Document the heck outta everything, and keep those records and your personal papers somewhere safe. And if worse comes to worse, tell your lawyer to STRIKE FIRST and STRIKE HARD. You can always back off, but it's hard to gain ground from a defensive position. Protect your rights now, it's too late once you've been served. And ask around for a good lawyer...clients will be all too happy to let you know which ones are effective and which ones let their clients get ass-raped in Court.
