Is His Height A Deal Breaker?

Blame it on Jimmy Choo. More and more women are towering over their male counterparts these days.

While the average height for a man ranges between 5'8" and 5'11", popular high heel styles are stacked at 3, 4 and even 5 inches which means that if you're a stylish single woman on the prowl, chances are you might be looking down at your next date.

Rest assured, you're not alone. The Huffington Post just published a list of 14 Famous Couples With Taller Women and we must say, things are looking up. Many attractive and successful women have paired up with men who are, let's just say, vertically challenged. Janet Jackson towers over Jermaine Dupree, Mick Jagger is minuscule compared to L'Wren Scott and Sophie Dahl stands at least 3 inches above her beau, Jamie Cullum.

These women didn't stop themselves from falling in love just because they towered over their man. But they appear to be the exception and not the rule.

For years, women have been conditioned to believe that tall, dark and handsome is the only way to go. Breaking that mantra, specifically when it comes to height, is harder than it sounds. Ask any of your exceptionally tall friends why they are still single and they're likely to blame it on the fact that they refuse to date a shorter man. And by short, they mean anyone below 6'2".

What is it about being with a shorter man then that traditionally makes a woman wrinkle her nose? Is it her own self-consciousness or simply a matter of attraction? Are taller men simply more desirable? Photos: Discover The Psychology Of Attraction

Being tall usually gives a man self-confidence. Likewise, snuggling up to a taller man usually makes a woman feel better about her own proportions. There's nothing worse for a woman's self-confidence than realizing she weighs more than a man she's about to get naked with. Read: Sex & The Curvy Girl

Height has traditionally been a turn on because it can signal strength, power and point to other physical attributes as well...

So call it shallow. Call it short-sighted. When a woman sizes up a man, she's likely to drop her gaze if his head doesn't clear her shoulders.

Personally, I think I'd have more of a problem with dating a tall guy. I'm 1,58 and my first boyfriend was 2 meters, and we just weren't a good fit together. He'd always have to hunch over to talk to me, and I'd always have to crane my neck up. Not very comfortable.

I reckon that's why it didn't work out with Christina Ricci and her tall ex-fiancé...

Tall, dark, and handsome? I'm 5'6" and blonde. I'm marrying a man who is barely 5'6" and blonde. It isn't about how he looks. It's about our chemistry. He's the first blonde I've ever dated, and even though I was shocked to be attracted to him, I wanted him right off the bat! Don't listen to your head. Pay attention to what your body and heart say!

The old height debate. First of all being a man that stands 5'4" tall, height has been some what of concern. I was always so worry about how women felt about my height that I never really thought about how I felt about height. Height is only a dealbreaker for me if the woman is more than 2 inches taller than me with or without heels. There is a very small minority of women who would date a guy of my height. I usually have to work twice as hard as someone taller to get a ladies attention unless the woman is desparate or insecure more than normal. Height can suggest physical strength however, mental strength beats out physical strenth every time. If a woman's self confidence is shaken by the fact that she is bigger than her man then she is too insecure for a confident man of any size.

Im 5'3" so if a man is shorter than me than yes its a deal breaker. I like tall men. My husband is 6'2" & I dont think I would ever go for a man shorter than 6'0". We are programmed to look for we think would make a good baby & I dont want a short boy so I think thats why I like the taller men. But every one has there own ideas of what looks good.

I am a 5'9" guy so i have dated women that have been in the range of 4'11" to 6' and I have to say it really does not matter to me ho wtall she is. What I don't understand is why the majority of women want a guy that is over 6'. I am close to that but I still get looks from most women like I am a leper. Why is height such a deal breaker if you like someone not just based on looks but also the personality?

My ex was 5'10" and didn't like it when I wore heels because he said I was "too tall". Honestly, I'm only 5'5". My current bf is 6'6", and prefers me in heels because I'm "too short" without them. Haha.
