Gloria Allred's Thoughts on Michael Jackson

In November of 2003, Los Angeles attorney Gloria Allred notoriously filed a complaint with the child welfare services in Santa Barbara, California, seeking an investigation of Michael Jackson after he dangled his baby from a hotel window. Now Allred talks to momlogic about Michael Jackson's passing, and what's next for Jackson's kids.

momlogic: Will Debbie Rowe get the children?

Gloria Allred: If she has not relinquished her parental rights, then she may obtain custody of the two older children. There has been a lengthy battle over whether she did relinquish her parental rights. At the time, no attorney was appointed to represent the children, and relinquishment was set aside. His lawyers talked to her lawyers. She may not have relinquished parental rights -- in which case, she may seek and obtain custody of the two older children. The court still has jurisdiction to decide what's in the best interest of the children.

The third child is not hers. With the third child, the issue is guardianship -- who will have guardianship of the child. Maybe Michael Jackson indicated a preference, but just because he indicated a preference, a court is not bound by that preference.

You cannot will a child like a piece of property, or piece of jewelry -- a child is a human being. The court will give great weight to the preference of the parent, but will not be bound by that preference.

We don't know what his will says, we don't know if he has a trust ... there are
a lot of unknowns right now.

ML: What about Michael Jackson's outstanding debt?

Gloria Allred: Whoever obtains guardianship of the kids is going to need funds to take care of these children. But there are lots of debts and creditors who will want to get their money, too. I anticipate there will soon be a probate battle going on.

ML: A lot of moms out there aren't necessarily hailing him as a hero. Some are saying he was a child molester. What do you think?

Gloria Allred: There's no dispute he was a great artist and a great talent, but he exercised very poor judgment and made some poor choices in his personal life. When he dangled the little one off the fourth floor balcony, I filed a complaint with Child Protective Services. I think anyone else other than a celebrity would have had his child removed at least temporarily in that case. And then there was his own admission that he slept with young children who were not his own in the Martin Beshear interview, and his subsequent prosecution. He did fit the profile of a sexual predator of children. Neverland had a lot of things that would attract children: a merry-go-round, animals, all kinds of games, ice cream. He was obviously acquitted in the trial, but he reportedly paid millions to the first child, which is not usually done unless there is some basis to the claims. It was a confidential settlement, but there are reports that he was paid 20 million. I briefly represented that child in the beginning, but did not represent him in the settlement.

I have a chapter in my book "Fight Back and Win" about Michael Jackson where I told all parents: Never leave your children around Michael Jackson unmonitored!

In Michael Jackson's personal life, there were some very serious allegations, and that's going to be part of his legacy. I don't see him as a hero. I see him as a great talent, but in his personal life, there were all sorts of questions -- a lot of which had unsatisfactory
answers.

ML: Do you have any final thoughts on Michael Jackson's passing?

Gloria Allred: I do anticipate that there may soon be guardianship battles, custody battles, and probate battles. This is the beginning of a whole new chapter. There may even be a criminal case coming out of this in regards to his death. Michael Jackson admitted he took a lot of prescription drugs, so we'll have to see what ultimately killed him. We'll find out when the autopsy report comes out.

In all of this, my heart goes out to his three kids. I'm sure they had a bond with him, and they loved him. This must be very painful for them.

I hope whoever obtains guardianship will put the kids' needs first, and that they will be loved and cared for as they deserve to be. I hope that whoever obtains guardianship will help them have a more normal life. It's a sad day.

And for the record...Jordan Chandler has allegedly come out within the past few days and stated that he was never molested by Michael, and that his father told him to lie to the judges/lawyers/etc/etc.

GLORIA GLORIA GLORIA! You're just upset that you lost your day in court to MJ. You need to grow up lady! He had all 10 charges dismissed and one the young boys even admitted to lieing! It was the pawnsy scheme of the mother to get her hands on his money!

Your "I'm woman hear me roar" stance, often clouds your common sense, causing you to not see the truth! Also, it often causes you to open your mouth and say very stupid things, revealing your level of class. No doubt that you're an "in the closet lesbian," or else you wouldn't be out to legally castrate every man every time someone cries wolf!

Why oh Why does "yahoo" and other media keep putting out crap like this in order to dish dirt on a man whose passed? Have you no shame? Obviously your momma's didn't raise you correctly! I hope none of y'all ever have a loved one who passes and are faced with scrupulous writings about them. Poor Jacksons! It's like they have to grieve but also be on guard! Just leave the MJ alone, he's gone!

The original case against MJ in the early 90's has been made clear. See below what I pulled on another website. It really sickens me to see what people will do to another for money. It is my belief that the accuser and his dad should sell the multimillion dollar homes they have and pay restitution to MJ's kids. How could they live with themselves all these years after lieing? Poor MJ, he was only reaching out to a kid whose father beat the hell out of him.

Finally, Jordan Chandler admits he lied about Michael Jackson of indecency, which became the pilot to the court case against the “King of Pop”. Jordan Chandler the child that accused Michael for misbehaving with him finally came forward to tell that the case was based on lies. Evan Chandler was the father of the kid, he never approved the friendship between Jordan and Michael Jackson, and he is the one who accused “King of Pop” for having an unnatural relationship with his son.

Michael and Jordan were friends but Jordan’s father never approved their friendship, encouraged by his father Jordan charged “MJ” for the indecency in their relation. The case hit the streets, newspapers and tabloids and the only names people knew back then were Michael Jackson, Jordan and Evan Chandler, and media and law firms are hounding Michael Jackson.

After Michael Jackson’s death, Chandler has come forward and said that he made up the story just to insult the “King of Pop” for the money.

Ms. Alred answered the questions asked of her, why are you all getting so angry. You think it's sound judgement to sleep with young boys not related to you? NOT!! It's creepy at best.

It doesn't take away from his talent and she said that....she said he was very talented. Yes, he's passed away. He was a singer. Not a saint worthy of worship.

I'd like to know "who" it is that's angry? Sounds, like many are trying to mourn someone they admired. And questioning accusations made (that were never proven.) Also, bringing up facts, that are being left out.

M.J. was an entertainer. A unique and talented individual who unlike many did things "his way." Maybe you and others feel the need to say he isn't worthy of mourning. I've yet to see anyone worshipping him? Especially like a saint.

I and others are pointing out "facts." That's a huge difference than what you're suggesting "koom."

    "ThisGirlsNeverWrong"

I totally agree with you. Some simply can't understand the global impact this man had. They've yet to see the work he did throughout the world. Their so stuck in their negative mindset they can't see beyond what they've been "programmed to think." By those who were after a piece of M.J. and his empire.

How truly sad for them they can't see just how much this man was adored and admired by millions if not more throughout the world.

I dislike Gloria Allred!!! She is full of crap trying to be a celebrity.. Idiot!By the way, MJ didn't molest any child. It was all planned by the poor excuse of a father and the shameless lawyer to get millions out of Micheal J. Well, they got it! We'll see how they justify that when they all get to hell! Gloria is a shame to all women!.... at least show some humanity!

Here it says Michael Jackson admitted to "sleeping" with children other than his own in the Martin Beshear interview. How she says that boldly like as if he had sexual intercourse with these children! He merely stated he slept in the same BEDDING, like in a slumber party, with group of children, all properly gained permission from their parents, expecting a sleep-over. NOT A SEXUAL INTERCOURSE. this women made it sound like he did however, by using the word "sleep" associated with sex. She should be sued for having wronged Michael.
