Gloria Allred's Thoughts on Michael Jackson

In November of 2003, Los Angeles attorney Gloria Allred notoriously filed a complaint with the child welfare services in Santa Barbara, California, seeking an investigation of Michael Jackson after he dangled his baby from a hotel window. Now Allred talks to momlogic about Michael Jackson's passing, and what's next for Jackson's kids.

momlogic: Will Debbie Rowe get the children?

Gloria Allred: If she has not relinquished her parental rights, then she may obtain custody of the two older children. There has been a lengthy battle over whether she did relinquish her parental rights. At the time, no attorney was appointed to represent the children, and relinquishment was set aside. His lawyers talked to her lawyers. She may not have relinquished parental rights -- in which case, she may seek and obtain custody of the two older children. The court still has jurisdiction to decide what's in the best interest of the children.

The third child is not hers. With the third child, the issue is guardianship -- who will have guardianship of the child. Maybe Michael Jackson indicated a preference, but just because he indicated a preference, a court is not bound by that preference.

You cannot will a child like a piece of property, or piece of jewelry -- a child is a human being. The court will give great weight to the preference of the parent, but will not be bound by that preference.

We don't know what his will says, we don't know if he has a trust ... there are
a lot of unknowns right now.

ML: What about Michael Jackson's outstanding debt?

Gloria Allred: Whoever obtains guardianship of the kids is going to need funds to take care of these children. But there are lots of debts and creditors who will want to get their money, too. I anticipate there will soon be a probate battle going on.

ML: A lot of moms out there aren't necessarily hailing him as a hero. Some are saying he was a child molester. What do you think?

Gloria Allred: There's no dispute he was a great artist and a great talent, but he exercised very poor judgment and made some poor choices in his personal life. When he dangled the little one off the fourth floor balcony, I filed a complaint with Child Protective Services. I think anyone else other than a celebrity would have had his child removed at least temporarily in that case. And then there was his own admission that he slept with young children who were not his own in the Martin Beshear interview, and his subsequent prosecution. He did fit the profile of a sexual predator of children. Neverland had a lot of things that would attract children: a merry-go-round, animals, all kinds of games, ice cream. He was obviously acquitted in the trial, but he reportedly paid millions to the first child, which is not usually done unless there is some basis to the claims. It was a confidential settlement, but there are reports that he was paid 20 million. I briefly represented that child in the beginning, but did not represent him in the settlement.

I have a chapter in my book "Fight Back and Win" about Michael Jackson where I told all parents: Never leave your children around Michael Jackson unmonitored!

In Michael Jackson's personal life, there were some very serious allegations, and that's going to be part of his legacy. I don't see him as a hero. I see him as a great talent, but in his personal life, there were all sorts of questions -- a lot of which had unsatisfactory
answers.

ML: Do you have any final thoughts on Michael Jackson's passing?

Gloria Allred: I do anticipate that there may soon be guardianship battles, custody battles, and probate battles. This is the beginning of a whole new chapter. There may even be a criminal case coming out of this in regards to his death. Michael Jackson admitted he took a lot of prescription drugs, so we'll have to see what ultimately killed him. We'll find out when the autopsy report comes out.

In all of this, my heart goes out to his three kids. I'm sure they had a bond with him, and they loved him. This must be very painful for them.

I hope whoever obtains guardianship will put the kids' needs first, and that they will be loved and cared for as they deserve to be. I hope that whoever obtains guardianship will help them have a more normal life. It's a sad day.

I agree. His talent will never be forgotten but for someone like myself that was abused as a child, I can't help but wonder the extent of his guilt in hurting children. You can be great in every other way but if you are a pedophile, those other things don't matter, as far as the victims are concerned. I pray he is innocent, not just for his sake because the shame placed on him is FAR less than the trauma that the children would have been through. However, there are many people that are still living that need our focus in dealing with pedophiles. Once again, he had AMAZING talent but, ~MANY~ do like Farrah or Ed...

This author makes me sick. Just because you sleep with children means you are a child molester? And just because you make one bad move with your child out of aggrevation over the media means you should lose your child? Wow, I guess we should all be perfect like her.

We love you, Michael!! And all the media witch hunt and people like Gloria can't even give you the decency of 72 hours of respect after your death before they move in with their jabs. The media and people like Gloria are out of control and we need the real change in this country that YOU wanted, and they can never give us your vision and your hope and heart of gold.

I certainly hope Michael wasn't guilty and I firmly believe that he is. If he had bad intentions when sleeping with children, I don't think he'd have told that he slept with them. As for Gloria Alred, she is always sticking in where she has no business. I hate it when I see her voicing her opinion on TV Shows. She, Nancy Grace and Jane Valez Mitchell tries people on TV. I think it's time everything is kept secret until the jury verdict is in!

Firstly, would you "I love you, Michael!!!!" people please PLEASE get a life. It's cring worthy to have to read that. You didn't know the man. Find another hobby.

Secondly, all lawyers are sharks and this one really likes the camara. I pay very little attention to the likes of her, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. It takes very little time before one or all pop up in these types of stories. It's disgusting.

Thirdly, and this I'm surprised no one has mentioned, if half the stories the Jackson kids have told are true about their father should he be within a 30 mile radius of those children?

    I think NOT.

I'd like to know more about the so-called parents of these children. Why if your child has been endangered did they not do everything in their power to make sure no child ever have to go through what theirs did? Why 20 million? Why not expose Michael and make him pay in jail for what he did to their child?

I don't know Michael, would have loved to though, but the only ones that truly know the truth are Michael himself and those who accused him of abuse. So, I can't say, because I wasn't there if he in fact was guilty of anything. And the only crime was he never truly was given the chance to be a child. And surrounding himself with children was probably because he didn't TRUST adults. I mean children are more prone to not judge, be deceitful, and have a strong urge for media publicity or money.

If I'm wrong, then I blame the parents who never did anything other than take money for their child's emotional and physical abuse. And all the others that followed in line. And as for Michael, if he did anything, well he's facing his day in court with the highest judge in the universe.

MJ never meant to put his child in danger by showing the baby to the media!!! He held tight to the baby and was just trying to let people see his baby!! Crazy follks.. And if a child was molested by him, then the parents are at fault for leaving them alone with a GROWN MAN!!! Why on earth would a parent leave them with a stranger like MJ!!! Its stupid that Gloria Allred had to tell PARENTS about not leaving THEIR KIDS WITH MJ!!! Crazy people!!

I'm disgusted with this woman. And I'm disgusted with the decision for anyone to interview such a vial person. In someone's death, she still can't keep her mouth shut. I think Gloria Allred is scarier then Michael Jackson ever was in her statement that "but he reportedly paid millions to the first child, which is not usually done unless there is some basis to the claims" I have to ask, if that's absolutely true then the father of that first child should of had his son taken away from him! That's prostitution of your child if you really beleive that someone molested them, and you take the money to keep your mouth shut. Get rid of this Glorida Allred she is a horrible human.
