Brown Recluse Spider ...

Saturday morning at about 6 'ish ... my son walked into my bedroom and said Look Mommy, bug! He handed me a brown recluse spider. I swatted it away and grabbed him up on the bed, then checked him all over to make sure he hadn't been bitten. It looked like it was dead 'cause it had all it's legs all spread out like spiders do when they die. I grabbed a kleenex to put it in the toilet and I grabbed it, it started to move. Talk about faaaaaaareakin' out!

I can laugh about it now  but then I was scared to death that he had gotten bit. Thank God he did not!

By the way I found out some things. Only 10% of the bites will be anything other than a little red spot. If it starts to swell within 24 hours then it's a bad one and go to the doctor immediately. If it's just a little red spot then you're fine. If they're in your building/house then they're everywhere. The only way to get rid of them is to find out where the "Mama" spider has spun the web it's a gray like spider web and it'll have a little white sack which hols around 50 spiders.

thats crazy. i just learn about these spiders on friday in my cpr/first aid class. i learned that the baby ones are usually more dangerous becuase they cant control how much venom they give... also not to burst the blister, thats ur body defending u from the venom. then we saw the outcome if u do burst the blister...wasn't pretty at all. very growse!

I am sure if it had bitten him he wouldn't have been holding it. I think you may have just made your son afraid of all spiders.

Have your home fumigated by a professional. These spiders like to hide.. in a shoe, in the pocket of a house robe, etc. People have lost arms or legs from these bites. By the time the swelling begins , it is often too late. I saw a science documentary about these spiders several years ago. Very scary. A lady interviewed said she was bitten at work in the morning. By late afternoon she was at the doctor. The infection had settled into her elbow and required surgery to save the arm.

I found out the hard way where spiders live! I was bitten by a Hobo Spider on my 42nd Birthday last February! Turns out a wood pile was a spider haven. We had a Explorer parked for months next to the wood, and I drove it to Tires Plus to have new tires put on it for my oldest son's first car. A spider crawled up my leg and I was bitten right above my sock, on my ankle. Didn't feel a thing! It got really gross and painful that night. I blew out my candles from a hospital bed!

I'm so sorry mafia_wife! Whatta terrible birthday to have. But at least you're alive that's a wonderful thing. :) I live in an apartment and they're bringing me bug bombs tonight and then they said in two weeks they'll have the exterminator come. Will the bug bombs work?
