Obama: Is his color more important than the real issues?

I have read so many articles about how a black man is running for president and people are actually supporting him. When are we are going to realize that it doesn't matter what color you are. Your color does not determine your intelligence or your ability to get things done. I would like it if the issues were the topic of articles and not the color of the man's skin. I had to search the net for over an hour just find out where Obama really stood on some issues. I am tired of reading articles that praise him for being black. He is white too people! I could care less what color someone as long as they can pull the country out of the mess we are in I will be happy. I am not going to give my vote to a man based on color alone. Give me more useful information!

I agree with you. Ever since he started running its been all about his race. Who cares!!! I suppose the media thinks people will vote for him simply because of his color and not care about any of the issues he stands for.

If he were to win the election, I'm sure we would have to hear all about his color for the next FOUR years!!!! ugh!

Well i think of Obama for more than being blak i think he would be a great president due to the fact of having intrest in all the wrong things that's going on in this country will to fix the mess that Bush made helping people like myself getting good paying jobs to take care of their family so no his color really dont matter he could be green blue pink or yellow.

i use to think that the clients was cool for our ountry i didn't hold against him that he ccheated on his wife! i fill kind of ill with thrm now cause everyone true olor can come out in due time (just plain evil)

you are obviously white. had you any incling of what it is like to be of minority race in this country then you would understand the absolute magnitude of finally electing a Black president. it's easy for you to minimize the importnace of his color because you have no idea that what his color means to those of us, of color, is that finally, FINALLY, there will be someone in the whitehouse who, at the very least, we can relate to. his color means that he sees this country through simililar eyes, because he was raised in it the same way we were... as a minority. of course the issues he stands for are important...duh...but it's his color that initially inspires me, especially as a minority, to even consider voting.

To take notice of Senator Obama as a person of color, or as a non-white candidate for the presidency is one thing, and even to recognize him as the first non-white candidate to win the nomination is another worthy recognition. However, this obession with skin color is the thinking of small minds. Sadly, in this country we still have small thinkers who continue to divert the real issues, and focus more on irrelevancy. We can start by blaming the media who has turned this entire campaign into circus of primetime entertainment. It's all hype, and people will continue to feed from it. Maybe one day people will transcend through from the ignorance of old, until then I can only hope and pray.

To India: I'm black, and I hate to break the news to you, but Barack Obama is biracial. If you look at this accomplishment made by Obama in the proper way, you would see that it is an recognition for ALL minorities, not just for blacks.

WOW! It is so sad that you feel that you never had a say before a black man ran for president. To think that maybe if you had voted in the past things might be on a different path in this country. To open your eyes up a bit I am white but I have never been the majority race where I have lived. I grew up in a poor home and we lived in the ghetto. I have defended this country through military service right next to every other race there is. White is no longer the majority in this country. Open up your mind and see past color!

SunShine 8 I compeletly agree with you! However the person before your post would say you must be white because you just don't get it. I honestly could care less about race. I want to know that the person I am voting for can do the job. I want to know where they stand and I want that information readily available to me. I do not want to sort through hundreds of articles to find the 2 sentances on how he feels about taxes because they are all focused on his color. That was my point in posting this.

Misty, I agree with you about the way this campaign has been covered. As a black woman, obviously I do recognize that this is indeed a monumental event, with having a minority as one of the nominees for the presidency of the United States. But as you stated, it seems like the media has headlines Obama's campaign with his minority status. I mean, we don't need to hear 20 minutes about his racial accomplishment, then hear about 5 minutes of his political views! It's time to hear more about his views....the election will be here in 5 months!! Let's get busy in choosing the right president to lead us further into the millennium. God be with us all.

His color shouldn't matter, but in reality, he's a black man in America. When he wasn't "Barack Obama," he was a black man with the "black man's" experience. I'm glad he had the privilege of growing up in Hawaii and experiencing the world, but Barack said himself that if he was arrested, he's be identified as "black." So why be ashamed of being black during the good times, when he knows his identity during the bad.
