Housework is a workout!
user
Saturday we celebrated
Halloween at our house. We had tons of friends and tons of festive
food (including little hot dog mummies). It was so much fun! But by
the end of the night, I also had a HUGE mess on my hands.
That's why I spent the majority of my Sunday scrubbing my house
clean.
I washed dishes, vacuumed left-over candy from everywhere,
mopped the downstairs hardwood floors (it rained so we had leaves
and mud tracks all over), and put the Halloween decorations away.
By the end of the afternoon, my house was clean and I was a sweaty
mess. Boy, housework can be real workout! Glad I got an extra hour
of sleep. :)
Here's the cleaning breakdown: An hour of washing
dishes can burn about 90 calories, mopping floors can burn about
100 calories, and vacuuming can burn about 120 calories. It all
adds up!

Is that your house? What's on the coffee table? Is that a power ranger helmet?

I bought a calorie counter watch/heart rate monitor which I wear when I work out. Last Saturday, I was ready for my 8.5 mile walk, but decided to "clean up a little" before I left the house. OMG! It took me an hour to "clean up a little" my 1069 sq ft loft, but with concrete floors, mopping is a HUGE affair. Once I got started, I continued with dusting, dishes, changing sheets, cleaning the bathroom (ugg!). By the time I was done, I was sweating and realized I was still wearing my handy dandy calorie counting watch... I burned off 459 calories in that one hour of cleaning!! Needless to say, my jaunt that morning was at a nice pace and all total, I made a 1759 calorie deficit to start my Saturday morning! Good thing too, cuz we ended up at a yummy Italian restaurant and I can't say no their amazing garlic mozzarella cheese bread (230 cals/slice)!! :)

The annoying thing is that when you have a party at your house, you spend the day of the party cleaning and prepping and then the next day, you have to clean all over again because the house is trashed! Sometimes I wonder if entertaining is worth the hassle.

That's why I don't like to do parties at my house. Cleaning before, cleaning again after... ick!
