User post: 6 Creative Ideas For Leftover Halloween Candy

My four kids always manage to bring home enough candy to stock our own candy store after they're done trick-or-treating.  After a day or two of eating themselves into a candy coma, I round up the bags and transfer all the treats into gallon size zip top bags.  I place the bags on the top shelf of my pantry until I'm ready to use it for other things.

Check out these creative ways to use leftover Halloween candy:

  1. Bring the candy to work.  If you or your spouse work at an office, bring the candy there!  You could give it to the receptionist to put in a bowl for people waiting for appointments, or you could put it in the employee break room.  What office wouldn't love free candy (well, this might not be the best idea if you work at a dentist office!)
  2. Bake candy cupcakes and give them to the neighbors.  They were sweet enough to give your kids all the candy in the first place.  Why not indulge them by baking them cupcakes with bits of candy bar inside or sprinkled with M&Ms?
  3. Send the candy to the troops.  Go online to find your local military support group.  Give them your candy along with a small donation for shipping costs, so they can send your candy to our troops serving overseas.
  4. Save the candy for Christmas.  You can use leftover Halloween candy to decorate gingerbread houses with the kids.  Package some of the best pieces (without Halloween labels) in cute holiday gift bags to use as stocking stuffers.
  5. Freeze the candy bars. Save the candy you and your family like the most in freezer zip top bags.  It will keep for several months.  Pull out the frozen candy to use on ice cream sundaes or as a special treat for the kids.
  6. Fill a pinata.  If your child has a birthday a month or two after Halloween, use the candy to fill a pinata.  You could also save it for a New Year's celebration or even donate it to a homeless shelter that hosts families.

I think I'd just throw it away. It's just Jr diabetes in a bag.
