What to Wear for Your First Day of Work

Congratulations! You've managed to get a job in today's atrocious job market. You progressed through the grueling application process, biting your freshly painted nails while wearing your most fashionably conservative attire; your qualifications surpassed many others in search of the same job. Even with an impressive resume and a slam dunk interview, you still can't help but be nervous.

The first impression you made during the interview process paid off, and now it's important to make another lasting first impression with your boss and co-workers on your first day. Don't further stress yourself out by waiting until the morning of to find something to wear for your office debut; instead, plan ahead. Get everything ready in advance, that way you'll feel calm and confident for the start of your new career.

The most important thing to consider when choosing out an outfit for the first day is that there will be many more days after the first. You don't want to pick something out of the back of your closet that you've never worn just because it's conservative. Staying true to your everyday style is important, especially on your first day. Pick something slightly dressier than normal, but don't go overboard.

We suggest an A-line dress, in a neutral color, a tan or peach, with a dark accent color.

Don't do dresses? Try a dark, straight leg pair of tailored slacks, with a simple top and sheer overlay.

Is your work place more casual? Wear your most well-fitting and well-kept pair of jeans with a boyfriend blazer.

Rather show off some leg? Make sure to keep the print or color neutral and the length of the skirt just above the knee.

Good luck on your first day!
