The new Botox: “Dracula therapy” injects your own blood into your face

Clearly the vampire craze isn't going away anytime soon, and "Twilight" marketing has reached epic proportions, but here's a beauty treatment only a real life vampire might appreciate. It's called Stimulated Self Serum therapy, but has earned the name "Dracula therapy" since the Botox-like treatment involves facial injections using your own blood. Ew! A London-based French doctor named Daniel Sister recently introduced the treatment, and the Daily Mail was so intrigued they sent reporter Leah Hardy to try it out.

Here's how it works: First the doctor draws four vials of your blood, and separates it into red blood cells, the clear serum and the platelets. Then vitamins and amino acids are added and the serum is injected into your face. Supposedly the injections can heal scars and renew skin through DNA repair. You're probably wondering this creepy idea came from. Apparently, for years dentists have done a similar treatment using a patient's serum to regenerate their receding gums. "I thought, if serum therapy was good enough for bones and soft tissue like gums, then it could do even better in the skin," says Dr. Daniel Sister.

So what did the reporter think of the surgery? "It hurts quite a bit...there are a lot of injections. I lost count.," says Hardy. "I felt like a voodoo doll, but everything was done in around ten minutes. I expected my face to be a mass of little bleeding holes, but there was no blood, just a little mild redness." She says  that lines the wrinkles and lines on her face disappeared within days and she fully intends to go back for future treatments in four to six month intervals.

We don't care how good the results are, the description of the treatment sounds more horrifying than most vampire films! Would you ever consider getting "Dracula therapy" if it was proven to work? [Daily Mail]

This sounds a lot better than botox. I like the idea of actually repairing the skin as opposed to paralyzing the muscles underneath it. Seems less likely you could have a bad reaction since it is from your body, and 4-6 months sounds longer lasting than botox. I wonder if it is cheaper than botox too? I would consider trying it once I get the the point of needing it.

Looks like the method Elisabeth Bathory was looking for centuries ago has finally been discovered and turned into something that might work.

injecting botox into your face (is it really a modified strain of cow botulism? i'll have to look it up soon.) is a lot creepier than using your own blood. if it is shown to work i would do it.
