Moisturizing - the key to hydrated skin

user

Moisturizers are designed to hydrate the skin thus making your skin more pliable and softer.  In addition, applying a moisturizer offers protection against dehydration,  repair dry scaly skin and postpone the effects of aging.

Simple and effective moisturizers can be made at home from two or three ingredients.  However,  store bought moisturizers contain a complex composition of ingredients and chemicals.  In addition, the cosmetic industry claims their moisturizers will reduce wrinkles, fight aging, and hydrate the skin, etc., with no scientific proof at all.

Oily Skin - use an oil-free, water based product or recipe
Dry Skin - use a thicker, oil-based product or recipe
Combination/Normal Skin -use a light, hydrating product or recipe
Sensitive Skin - select a gentle, fragrance-free product or recipe

Furthermore, store bought moisturizers with their complex chemical formula, can cause allergic reactions to the skin, such itching, burning, stinging sensations and contact dermatitis.  Additionally, store bought moisturizers may even increase dehydration of the skin.  It is well advised that when considering purchasing an expensive store bought moisturizer you are well informed of the chemicals contained within.

Moisturizing your skin should be a daily part of your skin regime and finding the right moisturizer is a trial and error experience.  When selecting a store bought moisturizer, read the formula and know what you are applying to your face.  If you would rather have a moisturizer made of natural ingredients check out the Recipes page.
