Last Sunday, more than 35 women in south Sudan were arrested for wearing tight pants and, therefore, "disturbing the peace."
According to Yahoo news, police said they suspected the women of belonging to youth gangs known for drinking, fighting and public nudity in the region's capital city Juba. Over the course of the night, the female suspects were gathered up and herded into two cramped trucks. One bystander said they were "piled up like animals" and "just picked up and thrown into the truck."
South Sudan President Salva Kiir was none too thrilled with the incident (most likely, especially after seeing the bad press his country received from news outlets all over the world) and ordered all of the women released immediately along with a serious investigation into the police crackdown.
Really? Disturbing the peace because your pants are too tight? What's next? Disorderly conduct for too-high heels? Cleavage as a misdemeanor? Ugh.
