Emma Watson thinks celeb lines have gotten ridiculous. Smart lady.

On Friday I had the pleasure of meeting Harry Potter actress Emma Watson. She's grown up in the spotlight playing know-it-all Hermione Granger, but off screen she's become a favorite in the fashion industry. If you've seen any red carpet photos of Watson, you know the girl can dress. She says her closet is full of high end pieces from Proenza Schouler and Chanel (I noticed a black ceramic Chanel J12 on her dainty wrist) and she is the newest face of Burberry. But Emma will not be joining the ranks of J.Lo, Gwen Stefani, and other celebrities hawking their own goods.

“First and foremost, I’m an actress," says Watson. “I’m really not interested in doing it for my own ego. I’m not a designer. If someone asked me to do something that was beneficial to a cause, then maybe I’d consider it, but not just [to be able to say] ‘Look at me! I’ve got my own line!’ [It’s] gotten so ridiculous.” Wow. We're impressed with 19-year-old Watson's intelligent take on celebrities in the fashion industry. We can imagine her character, Hermione, echoing these words: “The idea of making my own perfume makes me want to vomit.”

Once the Harry Potter series is done, Watson plans to attend college and take acting roles during summer break. “I really don’t want fashion to overshadow my career," she says. "That’s my worst nightmare."

Do you think too many stars have entered the fashion arena when they have no business being there? [WWD]

Yes - I totally agree with this young lady who seems to still have a her head on her shoulders. The lines that so many celebs are doing to quote "make affordable" fashionable clothes has gone crazy. It's like singers who act and actors who sing...stick with your original profession.

Then there is the whole thing that they are truly still highly priced, therefore, only affordable for other celebs or people of celeb status, but not the average middle-class (well, the little that exsist) unless they want to skip on food or bills.

I agree with Emma but disagree with Sarah. I dislike these lines. I avoid these lines as much as I can. Why would I pay $300 for some hideous L.A.M.B shoes when I can get Stuart Weitzman for the same price. That is the pre-recession me talking. Now, I am on a budget.

I bought a pair of Jessica Simpson wedge sandals in spite of the name because they were cheap. Now my budget isn't the only thing hurting. Ouch! My poor feet. These things are "affordable" alright but the quality is also "affordable" as in cheap and painful. From now on, if I want to be in pain, I will stick to Steve Madden.

The perfumes are even more hideous. As someone used to Bond No 9, Creed, Jo Malone, etc. Smelling these sugary $36 concoctions makes me sick. If I want a headache I can get Coty for $12. Thanks but no thanks. I can always go without if I must. Neither perfume nor wedges are a necessity. Smelling like Dove soap is better than smelling like Britney.

Wow, Emma. I didn't know anyone had that much class anymore. Audrey Hepburn had a similar philosophy. She said that you wouldn't see her advertising things because she wanted be known as an actress...

Oh my! A celebrity/actress with a brain? I must be losing my mind! I agree with her, it is ridiculous that celebs are allowed to "design" just because they're famous because 1) the lines suck 2) they're not designers 3) they only sell because they're famous 4) they take the spotlight from real designers 5) did I mention the lines suck? I stay away from all lines that were "made" by celebrities. Celebs please take a cue from this smart young lady!

Iam so happy to hear that there is a young actress out there who is not only pretty, sexy, but is also intelligent...Is it true that she has a nude blogg out here? If this is true, then I am also disappointed in her...

it seem to me that alot of celebs have to follow a assembly line.... first.. actor .. singer.. perfume.. then their own clothes line or singer, actor, perfume then clothes line.. and some people are sucker to buy those stuff just because they have a certain name on it. I guess people are getting smart and know how to milk us average working people for more moneys while they still can.

I agree with Ms. Watson. I'm not a fan of celebrities who think they can design and have their own labels. Instead, they have the "real" designers who work behind the scenes who actually make the patterns and prints. And, I'm not a fan of celebrities who have partnerships with designers. In the end, it just means the celebrities give input and be the face, but not a real designer. As someone who's worked behind the scenes in the clothing industry, its a lot of work and a full-time job. I don't think a lot of celebrities put as much weight as someone who starts their own label from scratch, and instead, puts their name and face out their in PR land.
